티스토리 뷰

Every great COP devised a new term. A few years ago, it added 'loss and damage'. Just 'mitigation' and 'adaptation' are dull. We need new terms to attract people's attention. And the more attention we have, the more chance we have for solving this problem of humanity. Uh, sort of.

Several years have passed since we introduced the term 'loss and damage', and it's pretty obvious that we are already experiencing a great deal of loss and damage per se. Naturally, the amount of money that we need in order to deal with such loss and damage becomes greater than ever. One-third (Or more statistically correct 'one-tenth'? All the same.) of Pakistan was underwater a few years ago. And we have got only tiny bits of money to compensate for the loss and damage from the flood since then.

So, it is time to add one more tiny word to the main text of the COP. It's probably too late to add the word in the 29th COP in oil-ich Azerbaijan, but it's not that bad. We can add the word to the historic, 30th instance of this great series of events wherever it goes (actually it will be in Brazil). I sincerely propose adding an article on 'retribution' to the main text of the 30th COP.

That's probably one of the most appropriate words that need to be added to the long list of terms, starting from 'mitigation', which has never been taken seriously so far by the ruling class, 'adaptation', '1.5 degrees', and 'loss and damage'. 'Retibution' will really make the event in Brazil great.

If 'retribution' does not work, the next one must be 'vengeance'. I hope that will work. And by that time, Seoul may host a COP with a great deal of 'vengeance' from every corner of the world...
